Surprising Spiders! On October 23, as part of its Fall Saturday Program series, the Museum of the Hudson Highlands presents "Surprising Spiders!", 10am at the Museum's Kenridge Farm location. Did you know the spider with the most poisonous venom lives right in our backyards? Find out which one it is and why you have nothing to fear from this potent arachnid! A tarantula will be nearby to help demonstrate a little spider biology before participants get all "caught up" in an exploration of web designs. Children include what they learn in a one of a kind spider craft for them to take home. The fall Saturday Programs are a series of interactive educational programs about the science, natural history and environment of the Hudson Highlands. An Educator from the Museum will begin with a discussion and move on to a participatory activity. Learn and have fun at the same time! Saturday Programs meet at 10am at the Picnic Area at Kenridge Farm, Route 9W, Cornwall, unless otherwise noted. All ages are welcome! General Admission is $3 for children, $5 for adults and for museum members, $2 for children and $3 for adults. Upcoming programs include: October 30 - Surprising Spiders! November 13 and 20 - Squirrels: Nuts of the Forest Squirrels are some of nature's clever creatures - they climb trees, store away food, and get into bird feeders; some can even "fly"! Learn more about these "nuts" of the forest by exploring their habitat, and meeting members of the squirrel family. Stay to make a squirrel feeder. Pre-registration required by Wednesday, November 10 or 17. Additional materials fee per feeder kit is $3. December 4 and 11 - Circle of Life Create a holiday wreath from natural materials and be reminded of the circle of life which connects us to the environment. Take a short walk and explore the natural environment at Kenridge Farm while looking for natural decorative items (rose hips, teasel, pinecones, dry grass heads, bittersweet, milkweed pods) to attach to the wreath provided. Pre-registration required by Wednesday, December 1 or 8. Additional materials fee per kit is $2.
