— Palaia Vineyard in Highland Mills will host a Neil Young tribute festival on Sunday, Sept. 2, of Labor Day weekend to benefit the Souza Scholarship for the Performing Arts.
“For a $10 donation to the scholarship, folks will enjoy the fun of a pig roast with all the sides, and the music of Neil Young from noon to 6 p.m.,” winery owner and event sponsor Jan Palaggi said in a press release announcing the concert. “The pig should be ready about 2 p.m. and the bands are non-stop from noon on. Help us help this wonderful scholarship for the arts, and relax in the vineyard under the tent with some wine, hard apple cider on tap, sangrias and pig, of course.”
Palaggi added that vegetarian options also will be available.

‘Heart of Gold’

“We’ve got a pretty good history of fund raising with the help of the folks at the Palaia Winery,” Souza Scholarship chairman Bob Curtis said in the same press release. “For three years running, they sponsored, produced and provided the venue and stage for our first three summer productions – “Godspell,” “Brigadoon” and “The Secret Garden.”
“Those shows raised substantial funds for the scholarship organization and helped us to keep it running and alive through some lean years,” Curtis added.
Jan and Joe Palaggi and their family and staff at Palaia have held benefit to fight breast cancer, to assist the Woodbury Historical Society, and most recently, to raise money for the Woodbury Police Benevolent Association.
“To say that the crew at the winery have, in Neil Young’s words, a ‘Heart of Gold,’ would be putting it mildly,” Curtis noted.
