Pacem plans ‘Music of Hope & Consolation'

    WARWICK-After a successful concert of folksy Spanish and Latin American music Pacem in Terris' concert this Sunday at 5 p.m. will celebrate "Music of Hope and Consolation. Pacem Director Dr. Frederick Franck said the music was selected "for these so critical historical periods. He said this was the reason for the choice of those most serious and noblest expressions of Western art and music of the predecessors and contemporaries of Bach (1685-1750)1 Heinrich Schutz (1585-1672) and Marin Marais (1656-1728). Featured will be J.S. Bach: spiritual songs from the Schemelli Songbook and t\\Q Notebook for Anna Magdalena, Bach's daughter. Sonata for violin and harpsichord in E Major and aria from cantata 210; Heinrich Schutz: vocal concertos from Symphoniae sacrae and the French composer Marin Marais: suite in D for viola da gamba. Mary Westbrook-Geha, mezzo soprano, has performed with New England Bach festival, Orchestra of St. Luke's, Emmanuel Music; Alice Robbins, gambist and cellist: Handel & Haydn Society, Arcadia Players, Boston Early Music Festival, N.Y.City Opera); Peggy Spencer, violinist: New England Bach Festival, Arcadia Players and harpsichordist Gregory Hayes, New England Bach Festival, Dartmouth College, Albany and Vermont Symphony. Pacem in Terris is located at 96 Covered Bridge Road. Tickets go on sale at 4 p.m. Suggested donation: $8 for adults and $4 for children.
