OCYS in concert with Czech choir


CENTRAL VALLEY — The Orange County Youth Symphony and Pražská kantiléna Choir from Prague, Czech Republic, will join forces to present a concert at 6:30 p.m., Friday Nov. 9, in the Bohemian National Hall, 321 East 73rd St. in New York City.
The concert selections include joined performances of the Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” from the Finale of his 9th Symphony for Chorus and Orchestra, the “Ring” and the “Slighted Heart” by Dvorak, and the Orange County’s performance of the “Slavonic Dance No.” 8 by Dvorak and the “Blue Danube Waltz” by Straus Jr.
The concert is free to the public.
The Orange County Youth Symphony, based in the Monroe-Woodbury High School, is the only ensemble in the area to provide young aspiring musicians with year-long classical full orchestra experience.
Pražská kantiléna is the Children’s and Students’ Choir of Jižní M sto Elementary Arts School in southeastern Prague, Czech Republic. The choir, founded in 1991, is formed by three preliminary and two concert sections, which are home to 360 children and students ranging from 4 to 30 years in age. The most experienced of Pražská kantiléna, the Girls’ Choir, interprets a wide range of music styles and genres. Centerpieces of its repertoire are works of 20th century composers as well as pieces, which are inspired by folk tradition. Under the artistic and musical heading of both its founder Zuzana Drtinová and conductor Lea Esserová, Pražská kantiléna took in recent years part in numerous festivals and achieved some outstanding results at international choir competitions, most recently three golden diplomas and the overall victory at Slovakia Cantat in Bratislava, Slovakia 2009, as well as 1st prices in the female choir categories at Cantonigròs, Spain 2010 and Limburg-Lindenholzhausen, Germany 2011.
