Newburgh Jazz moving to arboretum

NEWBURGH The Newburgh Jazz Series is moving to the Orange County Arboretum.
The two series are moving after five years at their Newburgh waterfront venue to accommodate their growing size and popularity, said Aquanetta Wright, executive producer of Ferry Godmother Productions. The weekly summer concerts will continue to be free and open to the public.
Producers also added two new music series last year, one a Gospel series and one featuring doo-wop, which will also re-locate to the arboretum, located in the county park in Montgomery.
I am very excited about this incredible opportunity for growth and I will continue to use these events as a means of bridging cultures, strengthening communities and stimulate the economy," Wright said.
Proposals are now available for businesses that want to be a part of the expansion. All the concerts are sponsor-driven. For more information about becoming a sponsor, email sponsors@ferrygodmother.com.
The free weekly summer jazz series has grown to more than 12,000 attendees, and features a variety of styles, including Latin, big band, improv, blues and more.
Its the right time for us to carve out a stronger jazz presence and expose more residents to the greatest American made art form," Wright said. "Our events draw visibility, publicity and tourism as it bridges the generations."
With more room and better access, she said, she'll be able to be more creative with bookings, production, layout and vendors, and have more room for dance performances, fashion shows, and arts and crafts shows. Community service and youth internship opportunities will be promoted at concerts.
The series will include themed events, like Veterans Day, Earth Rhythms, Senior Day, and Wedding Day.
