Land Trust appeals for donations

Middletown — The Orange County Land Trust recently launched its 2010 annual year end appeal for donations with a mailing to people and businesses throughout the county to raise money so the organization can continue to protect critical open space and working farms in the region. This year is especially critical for the Land Trust, as the protection of land remains a major concern, while funding sources during the current economy are uncertain, according to Executive Director Jim Delaune, and a majority of the Land Trust’s funding comes from donations from people in communities throughout Orange County. The remainder of the trust’s funding comes from the county, from state, federal and privately-funded grants, business sponsorship of events, and from interest from two gifted endowment funds managed by the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan.
