WALLKILL-Julie Ziavras will give an acoustic performance of classic Greek songs, from opera to folk, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Wallkill Community Center, located at Wes Warren Drive (off 211) in Wallkill. An accomplished singer with a warm and compelling voice, Ziavras has performed at Carnegie Recital Hall and Lincoln Center's Bruno Walter Hall. Manos Hadjidakis invited her to appear on Greek National Radio (ERT), and at the Piraeus National Theater. She has toured abroad, performing selections from her solo CD in concert, on TV, and on the radio. According to Steve Israel of The Times Herald Record: "Greek may be foreign to most of our ears, but Julie Ziavras' lovely, liquid voice expresses feelings of love, longing and wonder that don't need translation." She will appear with guest artists Costas Psarros on bouzouki, Petros Hadjopoulos on piano, Panayiotis Andreou on bass, and Richard Khuzam, percussion. The $35 ticket price includes authentic Greek food, pastries and coffee. Greek wines and beer will be available. The performance is being presented by the Ladies Philoptochos Society of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Middletown. For more information or tickets, call Stacey at 744-3554.
