Jazz in the Vineyard' at Palaia Winery on June 14 to highlight season for the Woodbury Historical Society
The Woodbury Historical Society has several events planned for spring and summer Woodbury Here’s a rundown on what’s coming up on the Woodbury Historical Society’s calendar: Honoring Memorial Day, Sunday, May 24 - Woodbury’s traditional Memorial Day parade is set to kick off at 1 p.m. The Woodbury Historical Society will again have a display along the parade route at the Rushmore Building (Rt. 32 at Weygant Hill) to honor the town’s veterans, past and present. “Jazz in the Vineyard” for the Gatehouse, Sunday, June 14 - Palaia Winery is one of the most delightful spots in all of Woodbury. Beginning at 1 p.m., the sounds of jazz will fill the air when a variety of bands perform on the Winery’s Main Stage. The music will continue throughout the afternoon. The requested donation will be $10 per person with proceeds benefiting WHS’s Gatehouse Historic Site and Learning Center. Wine and food will be available for purchase. There will be some seating available but people are encouraged to bring chairs as well. Palaia Winery is located on Rt. 32, about 5 miles north of Woodbury Common. The society’s events continue in July with a picnic at the Gatehouse and a summer theater treat Picnic Time - “Salmagundi” Style, Saturday, July 11 - Nothing beats a picnic on a lazy summer day. The Woodbury Historical Society’s Salmagundi Picnic will take place at the Gatehouse Historic Site and Learning Center on Smith Clove Road in Central Valley. Starting time is noon. Everyone is invited. “Salmagundi” refers to a “mixture or assortment” so plan to come and bring a dish or a dessert to share with all. “Leading Ladies,” Thursday, July 16 - The Woodbury Historical Society and the Monroe-Woodbury Rotary Club will jointly sponsor a benefit performance at Museum Village in Monroe with showtime at 8 p.m. It’s the Creative Theater’s production of “Leading Ladies,” described as “a highly combustible and continuously hilarious new comedy” about two down-on-their- luck English Shakespearean actors who find themselves on the skids in 1950’s Amish Pennsylvania. Tickets will be $20 each, and includes ice cream and apple pie dessert served at intermission. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Woodbury Day To Celebrate 120 Years, Saturday, Sept. 12 - This year is the 120th anniversary of the founding of the town when it split off from Monroe in 1889. As part of the day’s festivities, the Woodbury Historical Society will have special displays and exhibits tracing the development of the town, and more recently the village, over more than a century of time.
