MONROE — Viewers who were disappointed to not see Harriman resident Jermaine Paul’s “battle phase” competition on the hit NBC reality show, “The Voice,” this past Monday just need to be patient.

But in the meantime, Paul’s fans can see him tonight, March 9, at 10 p.m. when he performs live at The Captain’s Table in Monroe. Organizers call the event a “send-off party” for Paul before he heads back to Los Angeles to continue his quest to become “The Voice.”

Paul will also appear tomorrow, March 10, at 7 p.m. the Paramount Theater in Middletown.

“We’re keeping things popping locally,” he said. “It’s been really great.”

Paul doesn’t know yet when his particular segment will air as he said it’s up to the show to make those decisions. He told The Photo News this past Tuesday that he expects to get a call on the Friday before the Monday airing to let him that he will be appearing.

When it airs, viewers will see Paul prepare for “the battle phase” of competition with country music star Blake Shelton and the advisor Shelton selected for him. They’ll also see who Shelton pairs him with and what song the two will sing together.

During the second stage, called “the battle phase,” coaches have two of their team members battle against each other directly by singing the same song together, with the coach choosing which team member to advance from each of four individual “battles” into the first live round.

Paul picked Shelton as his coach after having him and singer-songwriter, rapper and actor Cee Lo Green turn their chairs in his direction during his 90 second blind audition on Feb. 5, signaling their interest in mentoring him.
