Goshen Jazz Festival announces line-up

    Goshen-The Rotary Club of Goshen has announced the afternoon line-up for its community-wide jazz festival scheduled for Sept. 18. The following acts are booked to play from 1 to 4 p.m. at venues throughout Goshen: • Rich Wiggins Trio-The Orange Inn, Main St. • Paul Rossell Trio-The New Street Tavern, New St. • The Mike Jackson Trio-Maureen Mullany's, W. Main St. • Steve Raleigh Duo-170 W. Main, W. Main St. • Louis London Duo-Catherine's, W. Main St. • Rich Marraday Quartet-Location to be announced. A musician of national fame will headline at an evening concert at the Goshen Historic Track. A late afternoon performance will take place at Presbyterian Church Park. Members of the Rotary Jazz Committee are currently negotiating with several nationally known jazz performers. Ticket sales will be announced as soon as the headline acts are booked. The charity festival will celebrate the life and legacy of jazz legend Willie "the Lion" Smith. Born in Goshen, Smith ignited the jazz world in the 1920s with his piano style known as the Harlem Stride. Proceeds from the festival will fund a music scholarship in Smith's memory. West Main St. will be closed for a street festival during the afternoon. Orange County Executive Edward Diana will issue a proclamation declaring Sept. 18 Willie "The Lion" Smith day in Orange County. The festival has been endorsed by Goshen officials, as well as the Goshen Chamber of Commerce and local merchants. Major funding for the event is being provided by Key Bank, Healy Bros., The Times Herald-Record, Dana Distributors, Berkshire Bank, Warwick Savings Bank, and Ironworkers Union Local No. 40.
