Get to know ‘The Italian Soul' at Pacem in Terris

Warwick-A concert described as "a declaration of love" to composers of the Italian Renaissance will be performed on Sunday, July 11, at 5 p.m. at Pacem in Terris. In the midst of the Warwick Art Festival "The Italian Soul" will include Lamento d'Arianna by Monteverdi (1567-1643), sung by Pacem's mezzo-soprano Mary Nessinger; the heart-rending Sonata No. 5 by Antonio Vivaldi (1680-1743); the mystical religiousness of Sonata III, with solo cello, harpsichord, and continuo, by Franceseo Geminiani (1680-1762); Ricercari 3 and 5 for solo cello by Domenico Gabrielli (1659-1690); Sonata for harpsichord, two celli, and continuo by Giacobo Cervetto (1682-1783); and Sonata for two celli and harpsichord by Marcello (1686-1739). Harpsichordist Kent Tritle is organist of the New York Philharmonic and principal organist of the American Orchestra. He is a frequent guest artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and has served on the faculty of the Juilliard School of Music since 1996. He has been profiled in The New York Times. Cellist Theodore Mook, a soloist with distinguished New York orchestras and chamber music societies, has been compared to Casals as a performer of J.S. Bach's cello suites. Judith Serkin studied cello with Marta Casals Istomin and David Soyer of the Guarneri Quartet. She has been a frequent participant at the Marlboro Music School Festivals in Vermont and has performed across the U.S. and Canada and extensively throughout Japan. Arthur Fiacco plays the baroque cello and has appeared with the American Symphony Orchestra, New York City Ballet Orchestra, and Philharmonia Virtuosi. He has recorded on both modern and period instruments. His recent recording of Mozart symphonies as transcribed for chamber quartet was called "definitive" by The New York Times. Pacem in Terris, a not-for-profit organization under the Education Laws of the State of New York, is located at 96 Covered Bridge Rd. in Warwick. The suggested donation $8 for adults, $4 for children. Tickets will be available an hour before the performance.
