George F. Baker art students' work displayed in GWL Library exhibit in May

Greenwood Lake Advanced art and photography students from George F. Baker High School in Tuxedo will exhibit their artwork at the Greenwood Lake Public Library “Works of Art” Gallery in May. The show will encompass works from the advanced art and photography classes. Some of artwork being displayed is pointillist, “dot” paintings, done in the style of the famous artist, Chuck Close, who painted large-scale canvases of his friends and other famous artists. These students followed the grid-system, which was used as far back as the Renaissance and by Close, by using grids to enlarge and paint portraits from candid photographs and then spent a great deal of time and care building up of dots of paint in a technique similar to that used by the famous impressionist, Georges Seurat. Also displayed will be mask, relief paintings in acrylic, which show experimentation with a range of materials and create unique visual statements. The Tuxedo students are taught under the artistic guidance of art teacher Leslie Hanes. The display will conclude with a group show at the “Junior Jubilee 2011,” a student art exhibition, which features artwork from students in Grades K-12, including the student artists who exhibited this past year at the Library’s Budding Artist Gallery, a student art gallery, on Sunday, May 22 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the library. Refreshements will be served. Call 477-8377 to learn more.
