Flute concert at West Point this Sunday

Flutist Staff Sgt. Diana Powers will present a recital, Standards and Surprises, on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m. in the West Point Egner Hall Band Building. The concert is free and open to the public. The program will feature pieces by legendary composers and compositions written by flutists. The Concert Band’s horn section, Master Sgt. Troy Messner, Staff Sgt. Nicholas Caluori, Staff Sgt. Nicole Caluori, and Staff Sgt. Matt Smith will join Powers on Francis Doppler’s ‘L’oiseau des bois.’ Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Rettie, saxophonist with the Concert Band, performs with Powers on ‘Epitaphe de Jean Harlow’ by Charles Koechlin. ‘Tuberama,’ by flutist Ian Clarke, will feature Powers’s flute with accompanying compact disc.
