Five Monroe girls are in Orange County Ballet Theatre’s production of ‘The Nutcracker’

CENTRAL VALLEY — Five Monroe girls area appearing in the Orange County Ballet Theatre’s production of “The Nutcracker,” with performances on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. at Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2:30 p.m. at Monroe-Woodbury High School.
The performance is the 46th annual performance of the Christmas ballet and is one of two performances the Newburgh-based ballet company presents each year.
Appearing as cast members are Monroe residents Ariana Lopez, Jenna Cupo, Emily Rosenthal, Ashley Magen and Alicia Bobb.
The ballet company has produced dancers who have gone onto professional careers and its artistic directors are professionals.
The Nutcracker Ballet has been a festive holiday tradition for many years and is based on the book "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King," by E.T.A. Hoffman. Russian composer Peter Tchaikovsky wrote the music for the ballet during the early 1890s, near the end of his life.
