    The Monroe Free Library is offering programming for adults and children this holiday season: • Scholar-led book discussion on Monday, Dec. 6 7:30-9:00 p.m. - "The Awakening" by Kate Chopin. This powerful treatment of female sexuality was a half century ahead of its time. The struggles of a woman in turn of the century New Orleans to define herself beyond her husband and children are significant today. Enjoy a spirited conversation with fellow readers, led by Keith Walters, a professor at Lehman College and Rockland Community College. Copies of the book are available at the library. • New York City bus trip on Wednesday, Dec. 8. Indulge in some holiday shopping in the world's most exciting city. Get those great NYC bargains and make your own lunch plans. Join the Monroe Free Library for a backstage tour of NBC Studios. Then enjoy the famous tree and sparkling lights at Rockfeller Center. $28 per person. Select from a variety of crafts, decorations, books, teacher presents and more. • Annual Cookie Exchange on Wednesday, Dec. 15, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Bring in a plate of your personal favorites, sample the amazing variety of baked goods at this fun party. Bring home a great selection. Maybe you'll find a new favorite. Recipes are included if you want to whip up your own batch. Children's events: • Craft: Jingle Bell Bracelet Gift on Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.. Kindergarten and first grade. • Craft: Snow Globe Gift on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Grades 2 and up.
