Hamburg, N.J. — The Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund will host its 13th annual golf outing at the Crystal Springs Golf and Spa Resort in Hamburg, N.J. on Friday, May 27. Brian Ahearn was a 14-year-old boy who passed away after fighting a battle with brain cancer. The foundation was established in his memory. The first outing, back in 1999 raised the initial money to provide financial support to area families who had seriously ill or disabled children, or had been affected by the death of a parent or guardian. Officials said 95 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to local families in need. Run entirely by volunteers, Now, over 10 years later, the fund has distributed over $740,000 to qualifying families in Orange, Ulster and Sullivan Counties. This also includes recipients of the Brian Ahearn Memorial Scholarship for graduating seniors in the Warwick School District. Officials said registration is underway and encouraged sponsors and participants to sign up since the event always sells out. The outing will use all 45 holes at the Crystal Springs, Wild Turkey, and brand new Cascades courses. The new Cascades nine was designed by golf course architect Roger Rulewich, who stresses playability while offering a picturesque view. The day begins at 11 a.m. with a sit-down luncheon followed by a shotgun start featuring a “scramble” format. Participants will have the opportunity to win a new car and prizes. A dinner and awards ceremony will follow at the clubhouse. The registration fee is $200 per golfer and includes golf, lunch, dinner, refreshments and a commemorative gift.
