Brass quintet in concert at West Pt. Jewish chapel

    wEST POINT — The Storm King Brass Quintet will present a free performance of original works to the public, 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 16, in the West Point Jewish Chapel during the U.S. Military Academy Band's Chamber Music Series. The quintet will also perform standard works including "Canzona Bergamasca" and "Centone V," by Samuel Scheidt (1587-1654), "My Spirit Be Joyful," by J.S. Bach (1685-1750), and the "Holberg Suite," by Edvard Grieg (1843-1907), as well as three pieces transcribed for the group by Staff Sgt. Troy Messner, of the U.S. Military Academy Band, including "Farewell to Stromness," a piece originally written for solo piano by Peter Maxwell Davies (b.1934); "Serenade," by Derek Bourgeois (b.1941) for organ; and the orchestral "Overture to Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna," by Franz von Suppé (1819-1895).
