‘Born Again: The Power Team Story’

MONROE — A screening of the film, “Born Again: The Power Team Story,” will take place tonight, Oct. 19, 7:30 p.m., at the Calvary Assembly of God Church on Route 17M in Monroe.
Two of the film’s producers, James L. Reid and Scarlet Lam, will attend the screening and will be part of a question and answer session afterward.
Film officials said the movie centers on “the Power Team” who ministers to audiences through live performances worldwide where they perform feats of strength: Breaking flaming cement blocks with their heads and arms, bending steel rods and many other “spectacular” acts of power.
The movie chronicles the history of the team through the lens of its founder, John Jacobs, following the team’s meteoric rise beginning in 1978 when Jacobs was 18, to the late 1980s and 1990s where the team had an $11 million annual ministry, second only to mega-preacher Billy Graham in crusade attendees and revenue.
The movie follows the team two years after the departure of its founder, forced to decide whether to resurrect the reputation of their ministry or abandon the decades-old brand they had worked so hard to build.
The team, now a small crew of remaining members led by Jacobs’ protégé Todd Keene, seeks to rebuild the Power Team name and bring integrity to a ministry that has many challenges on the horizon, according to its Web site.
This screening is the fifth stop on the cross-country Film Crusade Screening Tour that Reid and Lam are making with the film over the next several months.
