Dr. Warren Allmon will give a free lecture called “What are we doing to Evolution? Human Influences on Present and Future Evolution of Other Species” on Wednesday, March 2, at SUNY Orange in Middletown at 7:30 p.m. “Human impact on the environment has moved past simply pollution and causing some species to be endangered,” said Allmon. ”Our species now affects Earth and its life on a geological scale-meaning that humans are altering the planet in ways that rival major changes in the geological past, such as changes in climate, sea level, and volcanism, or extraterrestrial impact.” Allmon is the Hunter R. Rawlings III Professor of Paleontology at Cornell University’s Department of Earth and Atmospheric Science. Call 341-4891 for more information.
