The Fall of Winter

| 23 Feb 2012 | 03:44

The northeastern nights have seen weird sights, But the strangest that I’ve ever seen, Was that night in October, Now I swear I was sober, When I witnessed a wintry scene. Now October’s the season When leaves should be falling, orange, yellow and red, But in this strange autumn, we hardly saw them, 'Cause snowflakes were falling instead. Electricity went out, and I think there was no doubt, We were under a wintry siege. The snow kept on falling, was nearly appalling, Burdening old weary trees. Determined to stay strong, We huddled to keep warm, For this too must come to an end, And isn’t it funny, 'twas soon warm and sunny, And nature, our fair weather friend. Douglas Taylor Highland Mills
