The South Orange Family YMCA is 'proud to be a member of the Monroe community'

The South Orange Family YMCA's 5K Color Run and Kids Color Dash on July 15th was a vibrantly colorful success. Close to 400 racers - young and young at heart - came out to run in this event which netted just over $10,000.
All profits will be earmarked toward our Capital Campaign, which includes building a 25-yard, four-lane lap pool for the greater Monroe community, which would be the first community pool in this area.
This Color Run is much deeper than a one-day event where community members run a 5K and are proud of their accomplishment actually running 3.1 miles - which is quite the accomplishment.
It’s also an event that reinforces what the Y is all about, which is "family." Families can participate in a community event together. Children can spend time with their family members engaging in structured activities/games, while eating great food and creating "colorful" memories that will hopefully be remembered forever.
Whether it was the 5K Color Run , the Kids Color Dash, relay races, tug-of-war, dancing and a barbecue, there was something for everyone.
There are months of planning that go into making this happen. Our sincerest thanks goes out to Village of Monroe, the Monroe Police Department, volunteer members and staff alike, the YMCA Race Committee and WK Mechanical, our presenting sponsor for the third consecutive year, for their commitment to this community event.

And thank you to all the runners who participated and looked at this event as an additional way to demonstrate their commitment to health, fitness and above all, being a part of the Y’s expansion.
