Tuxedo Park - St. Mary’s-In-Tuxedo Episcopal Church, working with local businesses and the public school, prepared 56 Thanksgiving dinner baskets for those in the local community who find themselves in difficult situations at the moment. According to the press release about the effort from the Rev. Elizabeth S. McWhorter, food was brought to St. Mary’s throughout the month of November, the turkeys were gotten through the local Food Pantry and monetary donations of $3,100 were received. The monetary donations allowed grocery store gift cards to be included with each basket so that the recipients could shop for their own special items for Thanksgiving. Volunteers from St. Mary’s as well as the greater community came together on Nov. 22 to pack the baskets and deliver them to the local distribution center. Many of those who brought food and prepared the baskets talked of how much this annual event helps them to truly understand giving thanks while helping others. “It just makes my Thanksgiving to know that those who are our neighbors and in need will also get to enjoy this great American holiday,” one person remarked. “I can only do a little but together we can do so much. For that I give thanks.” St. Mary’s member Jane Garofano was the coordinator of the event.
