— Margaret Ryan, a member of the Monroe-Woodbury Girls Varsity Indoor Track team coached by William Mpasiakos, was named the “Athlete of the Week” for the period ending Feb. 9, according to Athletic Director, Lori Hock.
Margaret has been a valuable member of the Girls Varsity Track and Field Team for four years. She performs in various distance events and the 1500m Race Walk.
Margaret has repeatedly over the years made her mark in the race walk. She is a two-time OCIAA and Section 9 Champion for the past two years.
Last year she made it all the way to the state meet in the event she loves the most.
This indoor track season Margaret has placed first in the following races: North Shore Opener, OCIAA Development Meet, Pearl River Holiday Meet, Suffern Invitational and another OCIAA meet held at West Point.
The only meet she did not place first in was the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games, where she placed third.
"Margaret is such a valuable member to our team she has helped our team win 4 consecutive OCIAA Championships and Section 9 Championships," her coach said. "Her work ethic in the sport is second to none and she is highly respected by her coaches whom greatly appreciate all her successes, efforts and presence."
