Owen Chambers earns the 2017 'Michael J. Finnegan' Scholarship Fund Award

— Owen Chambers, a senior from the 2018 Monroe-Woodbury High School graduating class, received the 2017 "Michael J. Finnegan" Scholar Athlete Scholarship Award at the Parents Football Club's awards dinner held last December at Falkirk Estate & Golf Club.
The award honors the late Michael Finnegan, who attended Monroe-Woodbury, where he was a star athlete, an honor student and a team leader.
Since its inception more than 25 years ago, the Michael J. Finnegan Fund has awarded more than $500,000 to Monroe-Woodbury scholar athletes.
Chambers plans to use the $7,500 scholarship award to pursue an engineering degree in college.
In the classroomThis scholar athlete ranks in the top 20 percent of his graduating class, is a member of the National Honor Society, he has a four-year cumulative grade point average of 94 percent and a cumulative score of 1390 on the Math and Critical Reading parts of the SAT Exam.
Chambers is a member of the Athletic Club, SADD Club, helped with The Breast Cancer Walk and also helped with the Pop Warner Football Program.

"This young man is the embodiment of this prestigious award.
"His character is impeccable, his play on the field was simply outstanding. In the classroom, he challenges himself by taking 'Honors Classes' while still maintaining a very high GPA.
"He was a major contributor to the teams' success. He was a two-year starter on defense.
"He was captain for the team this year and earned the respect of all his teammates.
"Opposing coaches and players always congratulated him on his good sportsmanship.
"He exemplifies what it is to be a 'Crusader.'"
