MONROE — Boys and girls from the Monroe area were named local champions of the Knights of Columbus soccer challenge and have earned the right to compete at the district level.
Monroe Council 2079 sponsored the local competition at the Pine Tree Elementary School soccer field. All youngsters ages 10 to 14 were eligible to participate.

Meghan Conlan and Steven Felice were the 10-year-old champions.
Nathaniel Maddalena and Emma Dawson were the winners of the 11-year-old division.
Angela Iaccarino captured the title for the 12-year-old girls division after a tie breaker shootout with Jessica Bachiller.
Philip Gelormino captured the title for the 12-year-old boys division.
Christopher Felice came out victorious in the 13-year-old boys division.

There were no contestants for the girl’s 13- and 14-year-old, or boy’s 14-year-old brackets.
Each contestant was allowed 15 penalty kick attempts in the contests. Ties were settled by successive rounds of three penalty kicks per contestant until a winner emerged.
Each of these winners will compete in the district competition to be held in October with an eye toward moving on to the chapter, regional and state levels.
