CENTRAL VALLEY — On Monday night, Oct. 23, at Monroe Woodbury High School, the Crusaders celebrated the seniors on the Volleyball team in a ceremony that was held before their game against Pine Bush.
The Crusaders entered the match having beaten the Bushmen earlier in the season.
In the last league match of the season the Crusaders hoped to maintain their one-game advantage over the Bushmen in the OCIAA Division 1 standings.
The Crusaders took the first set of the match 25-16 but the Bushmen took over and swept the next two sets by the scores of 25-23 and 25-17.
Down 2-1, the Crusaders faced the tough task of trying to take the next two sets from a Bushmen team that seemed to have all the momentum going for them.
But the Crusaders battled back, taking the fourth set 25-19 and then pulled away and beat the Bushmen 25-15 to take the match.
The Crusaders were led in their stirring come-from-behind victory by
• Kathleen Riegner (37 assists, six aces, five digs, two kills, one block);
• Shannon Hiner (nine kills, five aces, two digs, one block); and
• Jessica Ader (15 kills, 12 digs, two aces).
The victory brings their record to 13-5 on the season and 6-2 in OCIAA Division 1 play this year.
The Crusaders playoff schedule will be determined at an OCIAA meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
