CENTRAL VALLEY — Monroe-Woodbury Varsity Girls Basketball Team played its first game of the new year at home against the Warriors of Minisink Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 2,
They entered the game having split their first six contests of the season and are 2-0 in OCIAA Division 1 play.
The Crusaders started the game as though they were still on winter break and the Warriors took a 5-4 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter the team woke up and scored 13 points with sharp-shooting Toni Neely hitting two of her four three-point shots to give the Crusaders a 17-15 lead at half time.
The Crusaders came out of the locker room after the half and played tough defense, holding the Warriors to only eight points in the second half as they slowly increased their lead.
Crusaders Jamie Waldron scored seven of her 11 and Taylor Neely scored five of her 10 in the second half to help the team to a 13-point victory.
The 36-23 victory brings their record to 4-3 on the season.
Their next game is scheduled at Kingston against the Tigers on Jan. 4.
