— Christina Palanza, a member of the Monroe-Woodbury Girls Varsity Soccer Team coached by William Mpasiakos, is the high school's "Student-Athlete of the Week" for the period ending Oct. 20, Athletic Director Lori Hock announced.
"Christina Palanza, in her second year on the varsity level, is a valuable member of the Girls Varsity Soccer Team," Mpasiakos said in the press release announcing the selection. "She is capable of playing all positions on the soccer field, from center back, to midfield, to forward, giving the coaching staff great flexibility in placing her where the team needs her the most. Christina is not only capable of playing multiple positions, but she plays them well in the process. She has helped the Varsity Girls Soccer team achieve a 9-2-1 record so far this season.
"Her passion, drive, attitude, and work ethic is what helps Christina excel at her sport of choice," the coach continued. "Christina plans on playing in college and she will do well wherever she decides to attend.
"Watching Christina in practice and in a game, you come to understand why she is good at her sport," Mpasiakos concluded. "She constantly strives to work hard, whether she is at practice or in a game, resulting in impressive play."
For this purpose, she has been awarded the Athlete of the Week for Girls Varsity Soccer.
