Village looks to update list to assist emergency personnel in times of crisis Monroe — In 2006 the Village of Monroe Police Department, in an effort to possess the most complete and comprehensive emergency response plan to aid residents during times of emergencies developed a “No person left behind” program. The purpose of the program is to aid emergency personnel such as police, fire or ambulance workers during times of large-scale incidents - like the recent tropical storm and subsequent flooding - with safeguarding or evacuating residents who reside in the Village of Monroe. This plan, which is compiled, updated and maintained by the Village of Monroe Police Department, lists all residents who reside in the Village of Monroe who have special needs. These special needs may be but are not limited to: People who are mentally challenged. People with little or no mobility. Persons confined to a wheelchair. People with limited hearing or sigh. The elderly or frail. People who may require constant oxygen or electric medical equipment to sustain life. The purpose of this list is to advise emergency workers who may be conducting an evacuation or checking the welfare of residents that there is a special needs person in a particular residence. This will allow emergency personnel to bring appropriate manpower or equipment to that resident during times of emergencies. The Village of Monroe’s emergency response plan also lists several special needs groups such as child care facilities, senior centers and medical facilities. Confidential information Anyone who has already filed a “No person left behind” form with the police department does not need to re-file one if no changes need to be made. If changes need to be made involving their emergency contacts or medical conditions they will need to complete a new form. Any new residents or residents who have developed special needs are encouraged to also fill out a form. We are asking all people with the special needs mentioned, or their families, friends or caregivers to ensure a “No Person Left Behind” form is completed and submitted to the Village of Monroe Police Department. This form and all information provided will be kept in confidence and maintained at the Village of Monroe Police Headquarters. The information provided will only be used during times of emergencies and will better aid first responders to provide the most efficient and effective care to the residents we are committed to serve and protect.
