M-W sends eight musicians to All-State Feastival

Central Valley - The Monroe-Woodbury High School Music Department announced that the following students were selected to perform in the New York State School Music Association’s 2010 All-State Music Festival: Brandon Figueroa, tenor in All-State Mixed Chorus. Tyler Hefferon, percussion in All-State Symphony Orchestra. Jisoo Kim, violoncello in All-State String Orchestra. Angela Ko, violin in All-State Symphony Orchestra. Jesse Schacher, trumpet in All-State Symphony Orchestra. Nancy Song, violin in All-State Symphony Orchestra. Andres Vahos, timpani in All-State Symphony Orchestra. Gabriel Valle, violin in All-State Symphony Orchestra; Gabe was also accepted as a tenor in Mixed Chorus. In addition to the students accepted into All-State, the following students were selected as alternates: Erik Bjorkman, violoncello. Ugonna Eze, bass. Tyler Hefferon, timpani. Jeff Butta, jazz trumpet. Bryan Kopchak, jazz drum set. Joseph Santantasio, bass. Andres Vahos, percussion. The All-State students represented Monroe-Woodbury High School at the NYSSMA All-State Festival in Rochester on Dec. 2-5. Being invited to All-State is the highest honor awarded to an 11 or 12 grade music student in New York State. It recognizes excellence and achievement in music and mastery of their instrument or voice. To be eligible, students had to perform a Level VI solo at a NYSSMA Solo Festival last spring. The musical and technical requirements for solos in the Level VI category of music are collegiate level in difficulty.
