Virtual reality sessions available at Monroe Free Library in March

MONROE — A virtual reality (VR) facilitator is coming to the Monroe Free Library to guide library patrons through some of the VR experiences the library has to offer starting today, March 2.
Participants are guaranteed at least 10 minutes of VR play. A longer experience may be possible depending on demand.
Patrons can play games in a virtual carnival, explore a fully realized art museum, defend a castle with a bow and arrow, travel deep underwater and have an encounter with a blue whale.
Sessions are:
• Today, March 2: from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m.;
• Monday, March 5: from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.;
• Wednesday, March 7 from 3:30 to 7:45 p.m.;
• Friday, March 9 from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m.; and
• Friday, March 16 from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m.
Virtual reality works by tricking one's brain. Each eye is shown the same scene from a slightly different angle, which simulates depth.
The position of the VR headset (which weighs less than a pound) is tracked through space, which tells the software how to render the images.
Sessions are first-come, first-served.
Due to the stereoscopic nature of VR, it is not recommended for children under 10.
Additionally, individuals with diminished sight in one or both eyes may have an incomplete experience.
