Neuhaus issues statement on Governor’s State of the State address

GOSHEN — Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus issued the following statement after attending Governor Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State address in Albany on Wednesday.
Among the highlights of Cuomo’s address was his plan to commit $34 million to expand, modernize and rebrand Stewart International Airport in New Windsor.
“I appreciate that Governor Cuomo has made such a commitment to Stewart Airport,” Neuhaus said. “Stewart Airport is an important economic driver for Orange County and this funding further validates that our County is a model for attracting economic development and creating jobs. Orange County is on the map and 2018 is set to be a terrific year with major projects such as LEGOLAND and Amy’s Kitchen also underway.”
The improvements at Stewart Airport calls on the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to spend $27 million to expand international passenger service with an additional $7 million provided in private investment to install new electric car charging stations and solar photovoltaic systems in airport parking lots to produce the majority of the electricity used by the airport terminal.
The funding would also enhance Express Bus Service for Norwegian Air’s (Norwegian.com) international flights to and from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan.
Norwegian began service from Stewart in June and features service to Belfast, Northern Ireland; Edinburgh, Scotland; Dublin and Shannon in Ireland and Bergen, Norway.
“Stewart Airport is finally International, LEGOLAND will create significant tourism opportunities, Woodbury Common is already a global attraction, new hotels are being built and developed and the Sullivan County casino is largely hiring Orange County employees to work there,” Neuhaus said. “This can be Orange County’s time and I’m excited about our future.”
