Junior golfers sought for senior tournament

GOSHEN — There are still team sponsorships available for the Elant Foundation’s inaugural Juniors Swinging for Seniors golf tournament on Sunday, Sept. 30, sponsored by Med-World, an OmniCare company.
Youth and seniors interested in playing in the tournament may submit their request for participation to mmccoy@elant.org (need to include name, address, phone number and age in order to qualify).
The event, which will take place at Winding Hills Golf Club in Montgomery, will allow Orange County youth and seniors to compete to win prizes for not-for-profit senior organizations in the area. Each senior organization will be awarded at least one prize ranging from $100 to $1,000. Team sponsors (for a $1,200 sponsorship) will have a foursome named after their organization (made up of two youth between the ages of seven and 14 and two seniors ages 65 and older), a tee sign in a prominent location and their logo and sponsorship on event board displays.
Each individual participating in the tournament will receive a hearty “goodie bag” filled with great gifts for golfers, children and seniors alike. Additionally, children or seniors who are playing and do not have their own set of golf clubs may choose from one of the sets that have been donated courtesy of Middletown High School.
“Elant is thrilled to host the inaugural Juniors Swinging for Senior’s event,” said Melissa McCoy, Director of Corporate Initiatives at Elant. “We are honored to bring this fund raiser to the community and to have the opportunity to collaborate with so many non-profit organizations and businesses. This intergenerational tournament will not only benefit seniors, but will also give children in Orange County the chance to experience golf and its many benefits, while developing an understanding of philanthropy and community outreach.”
Activities
The day’s events will commence with team registration and a putting contest at 1:30 p.m., followed by a tee-off at 3 p.m. A social hour will be held at 5 p.m., and a cookout dinner and awards presentation will take place until 7 p.m.
Highlights will include junior celebrities, Rory and Declan McTigue, who share the role of Teddy Schroder on Boardwalk Empire. The boys will be judges of the event’s table centerpieces, and youth competitors will have the chance to meet with Rory and Declan during the event. Throughout the nine-hole round of golf, a variety of on-course specialties will be offered to players to enhance the day’s experience.
