Jim Brooks named Orange County’s Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Conservation

GOSHEN — Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus has named Jim Brooks as the county’s Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Conservation.
The County’s Parks, Recreation and Conservation department manages and maintains more than 3,400 scenic acres of parkland.
“We are very fortunate to have someone with Jim’s experience and dedication to lead our Parks Department,” Neuhaus said. “His diverse background in both the public and private sector has prepared him well for this important position. Jim is hard-working, has great vision and is an excellent leader. I know that he will enhance our already outstanding Parks Department.”
Brooks, a Monroe resident, has served as the county’s deputy commissioner of Department of Public Works, Buildings and Grounds since October 2014.
He was responsible for the construction, maintenance, care, repair and alteration of the county’s buildings, grounds and infrastructure. Brooks oversaw the budget, related financial and forecasting analysis, and records management, as well as managing the completion of the county’s renovated 200,000 square-foot Government Center.
Prior to coming to Orange County government, Brooks worked as a home builder for more than three decades.
Brooks worked closely with his engineers to promote the development of pocket parks in his subdivisions which helped to maintain open space.
He also supported programs and activities unique to each community, including walking trails, bird watching vistas and open fields for a variety of activities.
