Donate extra hams to needy vets this Easter season

MONROE — American Legion Post 488 in Monroe is again looking for the community's involvement to help needy vets to make their own Easter dinners by donating hams to the organization.
"Believe it or not, there are so many veterans who don't have the financial means to put together a traditional Easter meal," said Marty Currid, a Post 488 member who is overseeing the effort. "To be able to provide them with a ham is our sincere gesture to recognize their efforts to keep us all safe. Members of the community can help us by donating any extra hams they may have."
Currid said many people have free hams earned at ShopRite and don't "miss" them because they're extra ones earned through shopping points at the store.
Currid also thanked ShopRite for its ongoing efforts to support Post 488's work.
"ShopRite understands the importance of giving back and recognizing the important contributions our veterans make to our nation," he added.
All donors need to do is stop by the legion hall on Lakes Road after 2 p.m. any day with their donations.
The hams will be kept in the legion's freezers and passed onto veterans in time for Easter.
