Graduations
Joseph Hosri of Monroe will graduate Saturday with honors from the University at Albany School of Public Health Saturday with a master’s degree in public health in environmental health science. He also was named to the dean’s list.

He is the son of MaryAnn Cappola of Monroe.


Richard Siegler III of Monroe, a 2010 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, has completed his degree in history in three years from the Honors College at William Paterson University. He has been accepted into a master’s program at Florida State University.

The work he will complete through the Honors Track will enable him to obtain his degree in only a year and a half through an accelerated program. He then plans on pursuing his doctorate in the hope of becoming a university professor.


Paige Marie Gennarelli of Monroe will graduate May 18 from Binghamton University with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.


The following students were recently awarded degrees from Binghamton University:

Alissa Tara Chanin from Central Valley was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in comparative literature from the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Binghamton University.

Daniel Sean Trebach from Highland Mills was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in biological sciences from the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Binghamton University.

Michele P. Tuohy from Monroe was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in biological sciences from the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Binghamton University.


The following students graduated from Coastal Carolina University during the May 11 commencement exercise:

Robin Callan of Monroe graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in middle level education.

Joseph Condomitti of Highland Mills graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration in management.

Karl Ehlers of Monroe graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor of science degree in exercise and sport science.

Alexa Keyser of Harriman graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration in marketing.


Dean’s list
Margaret Guzman of Highland Mills, a senior majoring in archaeology, was named to dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester at to Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa.

Students make the dean’s list if they complete at least 12 semester hours and earn a minimum grade point average of 3.50 for the semester.

Aryana DePorres of Highland Mills has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester at Champlain College in Burlington, Vt. To qualify, a student must earn a semester grad point average of 3.5 or higher.

Aryana, the daughter of Jacqueline DePorres of Highland and Jaime DePorres of Highland Mills, is majoring in early childhood/elementary education.


Honors, awards, programs
Nicolette Nunez of Monroe, majoring in biology at City College of New York, has been accepted into the pre-med program.


This spring semester, local residents who attend Dominican College in Orangeburg were inducted into Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society in history.

Phi Alpha Theta members are undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history who have distinguished themselves in their academic work. The mission of the organization is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. Phi Alpha Theta seeks to bring students, teachers and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication by members in a variety of ways.


Katie Ford of Highland Mills, a senior at Susquehanna University, has been awarded the IHSA Sportsmanship Award for 2013.

A member of Susquehanna’s Equestrian Team and former team captain, Katie received this award for her work in improving SU’s equestrian team as well as working with other university teams in that region such as Penn State, Bucknell and Gettysburg.

The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) provides collegiate riders of all skills the opportunity to compete individually and as teams in equestrian competition. More than 370 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada participate in ISHA competitions.

Graduating this semester with a bachelor’s degree in theatre production and management, Katie will be attending a summer program in Aix-en-Provence, France, studying intensive French language.

She will then be pursuing her master’s degree in European studies at Cardiff University in Wales in September.
