William A. Edwards Sr., longtime area resident, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. He was 83.
The son of William Edwards and Sophie Links Edwards, he was born in Chester on July 26, 1934.
William was a retired supervisor for the Transportation Department of Orange & Rockland Utilities in Monroe.
He is survived by his wife, Arline E. Wood Zwart-Edwards of Bullville; daughter Cathy Verbert and husband Joe of Chester; sons Jim Edwards of Ozark, Missouri; Greg Edwards and his wife Barbara of Chester; daughters Cindy Russell and husband Jim of Bullville, Missy Board and spouse Cathy of Pearland, Texas; sons Ray Zwart of Fort Pierce, Florida; Allen Zwart and wife Dee of Bullville; Steve Zwart and wife Kathy of Bullville, Bob Zwart and wife Janice of Bullville; 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
He was predeceased by his first wife Marjory Edwards, his son William A. Edwards Jr. and his sister Ruth Jados.
Bill loved spending time with family and friends at home, at camp in Roscoe and at his “paradise” in Florida. He loved camping, boating and fishing.
Bill got great joy sharing his love of the outdoors with others. He taught many people to fly fish.
He helped his community by serving Meals on Wheels and with his mission trip to Peru.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved dog, Roscoe.
Funeral services were held at the Circleville Presbyterian Church on Jan. 20, officiated by Pastor James Braunius.
Interment will take place in St. Columba Cemetery in Chester.
