With tremendous sadness, our family announces the unexpected but peaceful passing of Vivian E. Prince on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, in her home, where she recently celebrated her 84th birthday with us.

She was born, raised and lived her entire life in Orange County and remembered fondly when it was dairy farms.

Vivian loved flower gardening and tried to keep up with “Pop’s” vegetable garden.

She was a fashionista, known for having a bold hat for every outfit and making grand entrances on special occasions.

Thanks to her daughter Melissa, Vivian revived her love of painting in the last year, and those of us lucky enough were given a meaningful one.

Vivian was devoted to her family. She worked as a soda jerk, seamstress, window dresser and retail associate.

She eventually retired as assistant manager of a men’s shoe store, where she met actor Kelsey Grammer and was tickled to get his autograph.

She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years Gerald A. Prince, parents William and Audrey Kyles and her younger brother, William.

Vivian is survived by her beloved children: Eileen and Robert MacHugh, Cindy and Seamus O’Shea, Darran and Michele Prince, Melissa Van DenBurg and Gerald W. and Linda Prince; her sister Alice Wanamaker (and Carl); grandchildren: Rob, Becky, Erin and Kevin, James, Kyle and Dan (and Fendi), Jen, Marie and Melissa; “Greats” Emily and Grace; her friends and neighbors and a spoiled kitty Fluffytail.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, Wreaths Across America, American Legion Post 488, or your local SPCA.

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, and restrictions on gatherings, the family will have private services.

Burial will follow a graveside service at a later date.

Funeral arrangements and cremation care have been entrusted to Brendan T. Flynn and Thomas F. Flynn, Directors and Certified Cremation Specialists of Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc.
