Joseph W. Rake Jr.

    Joseph W. Rake Jr., a longtime resident of Chester, passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. He was 70 years old.
    The son of Joseph W. Rake Sr. and Keturah Decker Rake, he was born April 26, 1947, in Oxford Depot.
    Joseph was the widower of Linda W. Boo Rake, who predeceased him in 2010.
    Joseph was a retired Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army and a member of the American Legion Post #488 of Monroe. During his time in the Army, Joe spent several years stationed in Europe and belonged to several lodges as a Free and Accepted Mason.
    Survivors include his daughters: Eileen Rake of Washingtonville and Kimberly Carminati of Chester; his sons: the late Joseph W. Rake III of Lodi, N.J., Howard Rake of California and Robert Rake of Hawley, Pa.; his brothers: William C. Starr Jr., Ronald Starr and Michael Starr; his sisters: Keturah H. Rico and Nancy Williams; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    Joseph was predeceased by his siblings: Mary “Tilly” Elwood, John F. Rake, J. Wayne Rake, Joanne Rake and Harry Elwood.
    Visitation was held Dec. 7 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home in Monroe.
    A funeral service also was held Thursday evening at the funeral home.
    Cremation will take place at Poughkeepsie Rural Crematory.
    Interment of cremains will take place at a later date in Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen with military honors.
