    On Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, in Highland Mills, the world lost a wonderful man, James (Jim) J. Grupp.
    Jim was 61 years old, born on Feb. 5, 1956, in Glen Cove, the son of Joseph and Dolores Marone Grupp.
    Jim retired from the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel and was a pilot for American Airlines in New York.
    Jim was best known for his long runs, his love of all animals (and his love of feeding all animals), his incredible generosity, his sense of humor and most importantly his large and overflowing heart.
    Survivors include his loving wife, Kathryn Kregel Grupp; his parents Dolores and Joseph Grupp of Uniondale; his sons: Christopher Grupp, Jason Grupp and his wife Allie, Timothy Grupp; his daughters: Beth Nakagawa and her husband Matt, and Jessica Grupp; his granddaughter, Mariel Nakagawa; his brothers: David Grupp of Columbus, N.J., Paul Grupp of Montpelier, Vt., Tom Grupp of Sayville; his sisters: Kathy Perry of Miller Place, Anne-Marie Conn of Locust Valley; and many nieces and nephews.
    Visitation was held Dec. 17 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home in Monroe.
    A Funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 18 at St. Patrick’s Church in Highland Mills. The U.S. Air Force rendered Military Honors following Mass.
    Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
