Edward L. Oppelt

Edward L. Oppelt of Monroe returned to the Lord on Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at home. He was 72.
Ed was born Dec. 10, 1944, to Edward Leroy Storms and Madeline Storms and was lovingly adopted by Harry (2015) and Thelma (2004) Oppelt.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; his children: John (Kate), Heather (Marc), Richie, stepdaughter Cyndy (Rick), stepson Michael (Karine); grandchildren: Elora, Jonathan, Lefa, Amelia, Henry, John, Cieanna, Richie and Madison; and his kitties Mary and Peter.
He was predeceased by his wife Lois in 1991.
Ed graduated from Port Jervis High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict from 1965 to 1967. He retired from Inserra Supermarkets in 2010. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and he loved to read.
As per Ed’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 21 Still Road, Monroe.
Interment of cremains will follow in Cemetery of The Highlands in Highland Mills.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
