Monroe. Police investigating possible swatting incident in Monroe
State police are investigating what appears to have been a swatting incident after they responded to what turned out to be a fake call about an emergency taking place last weekend at a residential address on High Ridge Road in Monroe
Trooper Steven Nevel at the Troop F barracks said he could not give out any details on the matter as it remained under investigation three days after the fact. He did, however, confirm that a call was placed to police during the afternoon hours of Saturday, Aug. 12, about a potentially life-threatening emergency taking place at a specific residential address on High Ridge Road and that upon arriving at the undisclosed address police determined that no such emergency existed.
Swatting is the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.
