Woodbury Public Library's 'Artist of the Month' are Smith Clove students

HIGHLAND MILLS — Woodbury Public Library "Artist of the Month" for February are kindergarten and first grade students of Smith Clove Elementary School.
If you are expecting finger-painting, you have a delightful and fascinating surprise in store.
The artwork encompasses four projects which pay homage to major artists and cultures.
The kindergarten projects are Matisse-inspired collage and Miro-inspired line experimentation with watercolors.
The first grade projects are Native American Bandolier bags in fabric, feathers and applique and Mondrian-inspired geometric and color mixing patterns.
These ambitious works are conducted under the guidance of Rebecca Walker, the art teacher at Smith Clove.
The variety of mediums being introduced, experiencing and emulating great techniques and learning how to “think like an artist” are all part of art instruction provided by Walker.
The exhibit will showcase approximately 30 works by individual students of the Monroe-Woodbury School District at the Rushmore Memorial branch of Woodbury Public Library in Highland Mills.
There will be a reception in their honor at the Highland Mills Library from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, at which there will be light, healthy refreshments.
