Summer fest will salute hometown troops

    Pine Island — The fourth annual Pine Island Summer Fest will be held Friday to Sunday, Aug. 13, 14 and 15, at 16 Legion Lane, in Pine Island. The weekend will be a “Salute to Our Hometown Armed Forces” and is sponsored by the Pine Island Fire Department and the Polish Legion of American Veterans. Vendors, food, games and fresh local produce will be available. The following events are scheduled: Friday, Aug. 13 (No admission, children ride for free.) Carnival opens at 6 p.m. DJ - Joe Urbanski Onion Eating Contest at 8 p.m. hosted by Pine Island Chamber of Commerce Saturday, Aug. 14 Kool Classic Car Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Admission, $3.) DJ - Joe Urbanski with continuous 50s music Special appearance by Rivers Edge Band at 7:30 p.m. (Admission of $10 includes rides.) At 3 p.m., a special presentation for the 2010 Pine Island Summer Fest Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award. Fireworks at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 (Admission of $15 includes rides.) Carnival opens at noon. The Sheahan-Gormley School of Irish Dance at noon. Pierogie eating contest hosted by the Hudson Valley Polonaise Society at 1 p.m. Polka Family Band, from 2 to 6 p.m. For more information call 258-1410.
