Local theater company to perform Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Lycian Centre Pavilion
SUGAR LOAF-Next Stop Broadway (NSB) Productions, a Pine Island Musical Theater Production Company, is bringing the award-winning Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber Broadway musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" to life. Evening and matinee performances will be at the Lycian Theater Pavilion on weekends from Friday, May 13, to Sunday, May 22. The Internationally famous musical is based on the Biblical story of Joseph, whose 11 brothers are jealous of his amazing coat. They sell their brother into slavery and he is eventually imprisoned. But the Pharaoh of Egypt hears about Joseph's ability to interpret dreams and appoints him to a high position. Years later, his impoverished brothers arrive in Egypt. When the brothers learn who Joseph is they realize the tables have been turned. However, Joseph is kind and benevolent and he reunites the family. The cast of "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat" includes a children's chorus and approximately 30 talented teenagers and adults from the local area. "We feel very fortunate to have found the talent that we need right here in Orange County," said Kathie Andreas, president of NSB Productions and Director of the upcoming Lycian Centre Pavilion production. "I am proud to have put together a production company that focuses on musical theater for the entire community to share in and enjoy." Andreas has directed and appeared in numerous productions throughout the tri-state area, including an Off-Broadway production, "Broadway's Good and Evil," currently running at Dillions Cabaret on West 54th St. "We hope that by putting on these productions," said Andreas, "we can encourage all who have a desire to sing and act to audition for us." NSB Productions also conducts acting classes and acting camps. And the Theater Company is currently seeking people who are interested in stage management or working in various back-stage positions. Auditions at the NSB Studio, 636 County Route 1, Pine Island will also be held for upcoming productions of Oliver; Jekyll and Hyde; and Annie.
