HVPS Polonaise ball keeps tradition

Middletown - The Hudson Valley Polonaise Society recently held its annual Polonaise Ball at the Elk’s Lodge in Middletown. The dance was opened with the traditional Polonaise, which is a stately Polish processional dance with roots extending back into the 16th century. It became popular during formal public ceremonies, particularly weddings, or as the first dance of a formal ball. Contributing to the festivities was a group of young adults who eagerly expressed their enthusiasm for dance and performing. They are all alumni of the Onion Harvest Festivals that were held over the years in the Black Dirt region of Orange County. The Hudson Valley Polonaise Society, Inc. is a not-for-profit, organization dedicated to preserving Polish heritage and culture. Through the activities of this club, which was established in March 1991, the members work together to maintain and promote the time-honored customs of their Polish ancestors. The HVPS would like to thank everyone who attended and plans are in the works for 2011.
