Highland Mills — Highland Mills United Methodist Church is participating in Operation Christmas Child, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse, as part of its ministry of missions. Shoe boxes are filled and distributed to impoverished children, two to 14 years of age, in over 130 countries. Suggested shoe box gifts include; basic hygiene items, barettes, hair clips, school supplies, flashlights with extra batteries, small toys, stuffed animals, crayons, coloring books, picture books, socks, hats, gloves, T-shirts, sunglasses, hard candies, mints and gum. Last year, 176 shoeboxes were created. On Nov. 14, following the 11:30 service and fellowship, the church will hold its annual shoe box filling party. A $7 donation is appreciated which helps to pay for the shipping of the shoeboxes. This year our vision is to pack and send 300 shoeboxes. Those who can’t attend but want to participate by making a box can bring it to Becky Fernandez. For more information, call 928-6177 or visit www.highlandmillsumc.org.
