WARWICK — An apple pie baking contest will be held during Warwick’s 22nd annual Applefest on Sunday, Oct.3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entries will be judged in two categories: the junior division for bakers age 16 and under, and the senior division for those age 17 and older. Entrants must attach a 3x5 index card to their baked pie, including their name and phone number, junior or senior division, type of apple used, and the recipe ingredients. No pre-registration is needed. Apple pies should be dropped off at the 4-H Cornell Cooperation Extension booth near Kuiken Brothers Lumber Company at South Street and Railroad Avenue on the day of Applefest, between 8 and 11:30 a.m. Judging will be completed by approximately 1 p.m., after which pies will be sold by the slice. Proceeds from the sale of apple pie slices will go to the Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry. In both the senior and junior divisions, these prizes will be awarded: First place is $50; and an apple cookbook for second and third place.
