Monroe Senior softball league opens 2012 season

MONROE — Nebrasky Plumbing won two games to start of the season.

In the first, the Plumbers defeated Billy Ball 13-2. The offense was led by Tom Fallon (two home runs and five RBIs) and Rob Ross (3-4). Mike Wolfe pitched the win.

In the second game, Kevin Fisher (4-4, three RBI’s) and Bill Butler Jr. (home run and three RBI’s) led Nebrasky Plumbing to a 16-11 win over the boys from Brazen Head.

Warriors defeated Tankmasters 25-19

This game was simply a good old-fashioned slug fest. Every Warrior in the lineup had at least one hit and Mike G. pitched the entire game for the win. Everyone contributed to the offensive outburst.

Rand Realty starts 2-0 Rand Realty also started out the season with two wins. In the opening night, the team defeated Hudson Valley Homes by a score of 7-3. Mike Melaskey pitched shutout ball until the last inning and Rand fielded the ball cleanly all night. Melaskey and Pat Belloise paced the offense with two hits apiece.

In its second game, Rand, not known for its power game, beat Tankmasters 15-9 behind three home runs. Jim Bacchiochi hit the first to highlight a seven-run fifth and then Dave Norris (three hits) and Greg Depeau went back-to-back in the sixth to give Rand the extra cushion.

Mike Melaskey pitched well, Billy Paladino had three hits and Donny Benson scored four runs.

Best Mechanical 12, Bourbon St. Bar & Grill 2

Best Mechanical defeated Bourbon St. Bar & Grill 12-2 behind the masterful pitching of Tom Gilbert.

Gilbert struck out seven batters from the powerful Bourbon lineup and benefitted offensively from home runs by the Rizzi brothers - James and Anthony.

Tom’s Plumbing scored a 33-18 victory to open the season against Billy Ball. The pace was set with Andy Esposito’s three home runs. Dennis Verboys homered and had six additional hits.

Kevin Farley and Dave Rosenthal also had home runs. Sean Donovan and Ed Sayer added four hits apiece to help seal the win.

In Tom’s Plumbing’s second game, Pat Taggart recorded the 19-10 win over the Warriors. Robert Barry hit a three-run home run and excited the crowd with a leap over the Warriors’ catcher who had the ball to score at the plate.

Paul Sgrizzi had three hits and four runs scored. Tom Wall had a RBI single to key a 10-run second inning.

In other action The Captain’s Table defeated Kristy’s Restaurant 13-5 behind the pitching of Victor Vargas.
