Annual district art show raises $7,585 for scholarships and $900 for Food Bank of the Hudson Valley CENTRAL VALLEY - The April 29 Monroe-Woodbury District Art Show and Auction , held at Monroe-Woodbury High School, showcased the talents of 800 students from kindergarten to 12th grade. The event was also a chance to support arts education in the district with scholarship fund-raising through the auctioning of hand painted chairs, tables and clocks. Its Empty Bowls project also supported the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. The auctions raised $7,585 for art scholarships, according to district art show coordinator Julie Prymak, chair of the art department at the high school. The department is also donating $900 from its Empty Bowls Project to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. While the art show traditionally gives special attention to the senior art majors, it’s also an equally important opportunity for art teachers at all seven schools to highlight their art curriculums and showcase their students’ work to the greater community. Attendees were able to see the vast array of student talent at all grade levels in a wide range of mediums. Here’s a sampling of some of the art displayed at last week’s show. A list of participating artists will appear in next week’s Photo News. - Nancy Kriz
